USR Winmodem on Windows Server 2003

I suppose I could just try this and find out, but I don't want to waste my time.

I have a USR 56k Winmodem of some sort that I'd like to put in my Windows 2003 server box. Does anyone know if these Winmodems typically get assigned to a COM port?

I'd like to use the modem with a Linux session under Virtual Server, but I can only assign COM ports to the session...

They do not "get assigned" to a COM port, they add a virtual one. Usually the native Windows driver for such a softmodem installs a software interface that looks like an additional COM port, so that legacy software can attach to it. Linux drivers for those do nothing but that, install an additional /dev/ttyS... device.
