I was looking for a wireless card for my notebook and found this U. S. Robotics card for a desktop with a removable PCMCIA card which can also be used in a laptop.

It is $77 and has a $30 rebate through 30 Nov.

Sorry if repost, given the age of the rebate (5/1/2 - 11/30/2) - looks like it has been around for a while.

They have shipping of $8, making the total cost 45, but you get dual use...

Does anyone have experience with this type of combo?

Price changed to 47 (so I can't do math...)

should be $47. I have the pcmcia card and it seems that the reception drops to weak across 3 walls with the dlink 711 router. I also have problems with the laptop accessing the LAN..... can't access my PC or shared printer. maybe is my config.

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with this US Robotics adapter card for my laptop (Sony Z505-LE). The signal was usually pretty weak and for some reason when I installed Windows 2000, the modem stopped working all together. The card was very low cost (about $30 after rebate).
Also, when I was looking around for a wireless adapter for my desktop, I found that people were saying the PCI solutions usually got weaker signals (maybe simply from the placement of the card itself). You might want to try a USB wireless adapter you can move around and put in a more optimal place instead. I got the Addtron AWU-120 from Amazon (~$30) a while back, its a small sucker but working like a champ one floor down and two rooms over from my Dlink 711.
As for my laptop, I got the Dell TrueMobile 1150 for ~$60 (supposedly a Gold card). The signal I get from that is consistently excellent.
This is definitely not a thread cr@p. This less pricey solution may be exactly what you need, since you could use this solution not only for your desktop, but laptop as well.

I use this card on my linux box to make it work as an wireless AP. I dont have any problem with it.

Just update the firmware to 1.4.9 and it is good to go.
