USPS Tracking sucks

They're all terrible... in fact I've never ordered something through FedEx or UPS where the status was actually changed once from initial 'departure' time/location until after they delivered it.

yea, i sent something priority that never showed up at all until the carrier scanned it while attempting delivery. Even though it isn't really tracking, I think it's supposed to at least show that the post office received it to begin with.

except for that, they do a great job.

Priority mail never gets scanned til delivery unless you request them to scan it in when you drop it off. Parcel Post gets scanned at sorting facilities 1 or 2 times. then scanned at delivery.

Ive sent several items priority that were never scanned once. I got lucky that the people they were sent to are honest.

I understand that with USPS it's delivery confirmation, but why do they call it a "Tracking Number"? Why not a Confirmation Number?

they only have tracking for Express Mail, the expensive overnight service

Priority Mail's "confirmation" is driven by black magic and fails all the time

yep just delivery confirmation, had some ebay buyer accuse me of trying to scam him and not sending him item because the DC # didn't have any updates. As it turns out USPS sent it to mail recovery now without evening showing I gave them the package to begin with, I ought to call the buyer up and give him a piece of my mind. Though he filed a paypal claim against me, I probably would have gave him a some type of refund by now if he wasn't such a jerk.

Where do they call it a tracking number? On the receipt it's called "DELIVERY CONFIRMATION NUMBER", and on the website it's called "label number".

I ordered something from Ebay, paid with paypal, and the sender printed the label online from USPS or however that works. The auto dispatched e-mail explicitly said "HERE IS YOUR TRACKING NUMBER", click on it, and it takes me to the delivery confirmation query page.
