What does "Arrival at Pick-Up-Point" mean? More details below:
Your item arrived at the XXX processing center at 5:56 PM on December 17, 2007 and is ready for pickup. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.
They don't expect me to go there to pick it up, do they? Does that just mean that the mailman will pick it up tomorrow for delivery to my house?

No one knows eh. I don't want that package sitting at the post office waiting for me to drive all the way out there to pick it up myself. Surely that's not what they mean ?

Maybe its being picked up by a 3rd party carrier to deliver it to you? I honestly don't know. Maybe wait a day and if it isn't delivered, you may have it pick it up. You could always try calling the post office.

If it was supposed to be out for delivery it would say something like "With Carrier" or "Out for delivery". I've never seen Ready for Pick-Up to be honest. Whoever sent it to you should have said what they intended the shipment to be. But I'd say check today and see if it says anything new

It should just be a Priority Mail blue envelope. Expect a rant if I find out that even with all the taxes I pay, I'm still expected to pick up my own mail :p.

So it turns out "Arrival at Pick-Up-Point" = mailman will pick it up at the post office and deliver it to your house tomorrow. Mystery solved (like you guys, I'd never seen that status on the post office tracker before).

Did you just end up calling the post office?

No, I just ended up checking the mailbox to see if the package would show up on its own.

I see that from time to time.

the strangest one I ahve seen was a package from Circuit City.com that started UPS, then went USPS, and the final status was "delivered to unit."

... .. ......WTF is a unit?

it is essentially the same with yours: pick-up point = processing center = unit, apparently...

Be thankful the status changed at all.. Its usually stuck on "billing info received" until 2 weeks after the package arrives. I think they use the same system over at Dell's to estimate shipping dates.

I have this same damn "arrival at pick-up point" message, except that mine hasn't changed for a few days. I really hate the USPS.

Yeah that's what I get all the time. It's like... why even have a tracking system, if that's what you want to call it.

I suspect UPS/DHL/FEDEX forwarded the package to USPS.

It's suppose to be more efficient and low cost for non critical packages. It goes through their major network. The courier drops off bulk packages to your USPS distro or local hub. That leaves the major couriers to deliver more worthwhile packages.

UPS Mail Innovations
Fedex SmartPost
DHL@Home

Major companies such as Bestbuy and Circuit City use this service in addition
