USPS Shipping

Good morning! Thanks in advance for reading this.

I'm in a bit of a rut... I'm not savvy with eBay, nor am I savvy with shipments outbound/inbound.

My dad shipped out two packages for me on 1/09/2007... one was a Final Fantasy 3 game for the DS (which I sold here on AT) and the other was a Nintendo DS system (which I sold on eBay using my friend's eBay account).

I thought all was done when my dad told me that he had shipped the packages for me--awesome.

Last week, I got an IM from my friend w/ the eBay account saying that I had gotten a message from the person who had bought my DS. Apparently he was wondering if it I had shipped it and what service I used. NO sweat, I responded by telling him I shipped on the 9th and used USPS.

Yesterday I got another message stating : "I have yet to receive the product, I hope this doesn't become a problem" GREAT!!!

I asked my dad if he had gotten a receipt for the shipments (hoping that it had a tracking number)... to my disdain he had a receipt but it just showed two packages that were shipped and their weights... no tracking number.

Is there a way I can trace this w/ the post office to see if it is maybe sitting at their sort facility in NY?

(P.S.) I know some people will say that I should have done this on my own and not rely on my dad, but--even if I did do it on my own, I wouldn't have done it any differently than my dad had. And YES, I know he should have gotten a tracking number or delivery confirmation!! :(

Thanks in advance guys!

Then you would have done it differently - you would have asked for delivery confirmation. Does the receipt have any sort of package number? I don't think you can trace a package unless you order delivery confirmation or signature confirmation.

Edit - The 9th was last Wed. I would probably give it another week. Parcel post is excruciatingly slow.

L.A. to NY via parcel post is going to take a while. Give it another week or so. If it still hasn't shown up, the guy is either lying to you or the post office lost the package.

Unless your dad purchased Delivery Confirmation, there is no way to confirm a delivery.

Yea, and there's some dishonest people on ebay that will claim that they never got the package if delivery confirmation isn't on it because they know you can't prove that it was actually delivered.

That's why, with ebay, you should ALWAYS have at least Delivery Confirmation...no matter what. Hopefully this guy isn't trying to scam you though, but it's something to consider.

Hmm... any advice on the best course of action now? I'm still praying that the POST OFFICE is taking a while to get it out to him. But worst case scenario, how do I react to all this w/ all this said and done?

Was the item paid for with PayPal? If so, if there is no tracking number available, unfortunately PayPal will side with the buyer and issue him a refund when he files a dispute.

Thanks CptObvious,

I found out some somewhat good news... I realized on the receipt that my dad shipped via PARCEL POST ... I checked the transit time and it says 8 business days.

So hopefully... it's still in transit!!!

You could try taking your receipt to the post office. Even if there is no tracking number, they do have the ability to track most USPS packages.
