So is this a new service? or just a temporary thing? I hadn't noticed it before.

I think they recently started.
I received an email from them yesterday about it so it must be new.

I have an account with USPS and I ordered the stuff. It's suppose to be shipped to me in 10-14 days

Wish the shoe box looking one were a tad bigger.

I think FedEx Ground is still hotter. You're insured up to $100 and you get a tracking number.

if you ship stuff coast to coast then 7.70 Priority is cheaper and faster

Do they have these boxes in most of the post offices yet?

That may be true, but speaking from personal experience, there's nothing worse than shipping something and finding out that it got lost and now they don't know where it's at or can't help you because it wasn't insured and it didn't have a tracking number.

Hence, the point I was trying to make when I made my original statement.

I'll never send anything other than a letter through USPS.

It depends on the weight, destination (AK/HI) and whether you need insurance (and how much). A 3-4 pound package with insurance is cheaper with FedEx Ground/Home. Heavier than that and the flat rate priority is cheaper up to $150 or so.

90% of the time for what I ship, FedEx Ground/Home will still be cheaper.
