USPS Priority Mail...Any insurance?

I'm thinking about giving Priority Mail another shot (had bad experiences in the past) since it's super convenient...But I'm a little in the dark about what default amount is covered when sending a package via Priority Mail (like when you send with UPS you're automatically covered for up to $100 value).

I tried looking through the USPS site, but there's nothing that specifically says anything about a default coverage value.

Also, there's a Post Office mailbox nearby...Can you drop Priority Mail packages in regular USPS mailboxes?

Thanks.

the default is ZERO

Make sure you get Insurance when you ship anything over $50 or you are unsure about the guy you're sending the package too.

Also, Delivery Confirmation isn't covered under Paypal's Buyer Protection. So if the buyer says he never got the package but USPS Delivery Confirmation says he did, you are SOL.

Yep, $0 by default. You have to fill out the blue insurance form. What kind of problems have you had with Priority Mail? I've never had a problem in the past few years when I've sent out at least 3000 packages.

Unfortunately I had a few packages 'disappear' when I sent them...I THINK it was 'lost' within our mailroom (I sent the packages through the mailroom guys at work), but Priority Mail has no means to verify anything so I was SOL.

That's also why I asked if Priority Mail can be dropped off in regular USPS Mailboxes...I'd think those would be a little more secure vs. trusting the mailroom people at work.

Insurance will cover for lost packages

Delivery Confirmation will not.

USPS Insurance is $1 per $100 covered.

You can mail Priority Envelopes at any USPS drop box.

Cool, but what about Priority Mail small boxes? Is that okay too?

Thanks much.

Yeah... you use to be able to do it. After that time, I dropped something in a box and it came back to me. Now you have to go in and set it on the counter in front of someone... just so they see it.

Stupid postal rules.

Insurance is more than $1 per $100. It starts at $1.85 for up to $50 and goes up in smaller increments from there on ($100, $200, $300). There's a rate calculator on the USPS Web site. Try it. It's fun!

I <3 USPS like no other. I can print a label online, I can schedule a pick up the next day, all for free. I love USPS!!!
