WASHINGTON, February 5, 2014– On January 31, 2014 the United States Postal Service (USPS) posted a solicitation to purchase “assorted small arms ammunition” on the federal government’s federal business opportunities website (FBO.gov). The solicitation is structured to begin a bidding process for the purchase of guns and ammunition.
The USPS has been posting $1-5 billion quarterly losses for years. In fiscal year (FY) 2012 alone the USPS lost a record $15.9 Billion. At it’s current rate of spending, the USPS is projected to hit $45 Billion in debt within the next three years.

Regardless of this debt, and the national debt at $17.3 Trillion, the US Government has been purchasing firearms and ammunition off of the market at an alarming rate.

Multiple federal agencies have recently bought billions of dollars worth of firearms and ammunition. These agencies include the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Education, the IRS, the Social Security Administration, and more.

The intended purpose for these firearms and ammunition is currently unknown. Conspiracies have flooded the internet, and multiple members of Congress have questioned the purchases without receiving straight answers.

Can someone explain why the USPS needs guns? What are they protecting themsevles from, or is it going to be used for aggression? The government is REALLY ramping up it's DOMESTIC ARMY. . .

EDIT - as pointed out we don't have information on how much they're buying . . . . supposedly they have a legitimate reason to have SOME firearms. . to be seen

The USPS does have over 2000 postal inspectors that are fully certified peace officers and they do carry guns. I looked at the announcement and nowhere does it mention the number of rounds they wish to purchase. I think your article is blowing things out of proportion, at least as far as the USPS is concerned.

In what capacity to they operate, these "peace officers?"

Some postal workers in this country don't exactly work in a nice safe city. You want to be a postal worker delivery mail in some outskirt rural residences in Alaska without a gun? If so, you got more cajones than most people I know.

Postal Inspectors are the cops of the post office.

How did he jump the shark? He's not a tv series or something similar with a constant output that strives for a certain quality level.

Ok, i suppose it's yet to be seen how much they're ordering. . to see if it indeed raises red flags . . . . but why do agents of the State need to be armed if the citizenry doesn't? Why can't they just call 911 like everyone else?

Did you just ask "why can't law enforcement officers call 911 like everyone else?" Surely, you see the flaw in that line of questioning.

It says nothing about how much they are purchasing.

And their losses are not due to their operating costs so much as being forced to pre-pay large chunks of their workers pensions.

Of course they have guns and ammo,... they know where you live.

It's how the government will kick off their 1st wave of invading our homes by sending in the Post Office Workers, and,... wait, what comes after they invade our homes??

i was being (hopefully obviously) facetious . . .

then again, what IS the flaw in that line of reasoning? if it's good enough for us peons why isn't it good enough for the agents of the State? lol, good luck!

Now your title is false. Even though the article claims it is arms & ammunition, the USPS is only asking for assorted small arms ammunition. If they want to claim "arms", then need to link to it.

Nowhere in the article does it say they are buying guns.

Its in the title, but it is a nut job site so go figure, along with its poor spelling.

This one seems to crop up now and again. I recall it happening when the EPA's armed officers bought a couple years supply of ammo and it came out to 'OMG like 10,000 rounds per officer!' and the EPA was like, 'Yeah it's good that they practice now and then.'

The tinfoilers were convinced that it was really about transforming the EPA into B Hussein Soetoro's renegade private army.
