POTS service isn't available (think the building was wired for FiOS from the get-go) so Magic Jack isn't an option. He's had bad experiences with Vonage so that's out as well.

I don't know why you would say Magic Jack isn't an option, because you don't have POTS. MJ has nothing to do with POTS. It requires a Broadband internet connection, that's all. Modern versions of MJ interface directly with your router, and do not require a computer to be on, other than for initial setup.

The policy is you can buy your own eMTa but there are stipulations. It was that best buy was selling them but they claimed it was not worth the inventory space becasue they sold so few. Yes the arris TM-822 [not 822G it may be supported but, you can also check eth comcast supported device pageis the model you want and the ONLY supported model for customer owned. You need to call and make sure YOUR AREA supports you doing this becasue it is not a company wide policy apparently. Last I heard Comcast is in works with amazon to carry supported NEW devices. Stolen property will NOT be provisioned, be wary of ebay sales from this, its a common occurrence there, people take the emta from us, put it on ebay then when we get out there and tell them its our property they get all pissy. You can't expect Comcast to support stolen equipment you bought on ebay, especially when it was stolen from Comcast.
