Using winamp to convert a mp3 to a wma file...

You can write it to wav, after that you should use some program to convert to wma. Media Player perhaps?

Unless you really need it in WMA format for some reason, I'd say leave it alone. Converting from one lossy format to another results in reducing the quality of the recording.

Unfortunately, i am running on win2k. and yes, i need to convert from wav or mp3 to wma, i do not really care about quality. Are there any available free plugins for winamp?
