Using WEP on WUSB11 2.5 with WAP11

I am trying to setp WEP on my home network. I have the WAP on an XP computer connected via USB to configure it. Then I have another XP Home computer, and a WIN98 computer both with their own WUSB11 2.5 receivers.

On the XP computer, when I open the WUSB11 configure util, the encryption tab isn't at the top of the screen, just LINK INFO, SITE SURVEY, and ABOUT. On the Win98 computer, it has like 3 more tabs, including the encryption tab, which I need. So I enable 128 bit WEP on the WAP. On the 98 computer, I enter the same passphrase, and it doesn't work. I go to 64 bit, and change the 98 to 64 bit, and it works fine. On XP, I can't do anything because the tab doesn't exist.

So 128 bit doesn't work, and XP doesn't work.

Driver version 1.7.29.1032

Config version 2.97.3.2

Anyone have any experiences??

thanks

Amazingly I have the same WUSB11 2.5 adapters. Here is my experience..

Look at the drivers versions on BOTH of them, my guess is that one is an older version. On the old XP drivers that I was using, it had the extra tabs. For the new version, it has only 3 tabs. Maybe the drivers for Win98 haven't been updated...?

You have to actually go into the properties of your network connection to use the WEP keys on the one with the 3 tabs.

If you need any more help, LMK.

Eric

P.S. Updating the drivers on those is a pain in the @$$...

Ok, that makes sense...

Now, when I go into the network properties of the Wireless device, I hit CONFIGURE Instant Wireless USB Network Adaptor 2.5. I goto Advanced, and can change the encryption from disabled to 128bit. Then where do I add the passphrase? I can go to the WIRELESS NETWORKS tab, but whenever I try to add the passphrase, it says that the access point 'linksys' is already configured and to change the name before I do anything.

Under PREFERRED Networks, I can change the WEP passphrase, but it doesn't seem to make any difference, because the AVAILABLE network doesn't have the WEP on, because it won't let me change that.

I just went through every configuration and can't make it work!

It does work at 64 bit on with Win98 machine though...

And in the available networks, when I turn WEP on and off on the access point, it shows up on the linksys connection as WEP enables, but it says THIS KEY IS PROVIDED FOR ME AUTOMATICALLY. And it isn't.

Sigh. Can you step me through it?
