using vga after using dvi sucks

I have a 2005 FPW. I run my desktop on the DVI and my laptop on the VGA... never been able to discern a difference in quality between the two.

i haven't bothered setting anything up, but the text seems notably thicker and darker on one side of the screen than on the other.
