Using Ultr@VNC to support LAN users

It seems like when i'm at work i waste about 25% of my day walking around fixing user problems, which 90% of the time will take me less then 30 seconds to fix (i think a lot of the administrators have this problem!). Anyway, since i'm not 'officially' in charge of the network i haven't been able to do a lot in terms of modifications. Most users are on XP Home boxes - running free-reign. No domain setup, but that's a whole other issue.....

So one of my ideas is as follows...

Install Ultr@VNC on all client machines to enable remote 'help' or administration. VNC would ONLY be available on the LAN - not routable outside corporate. There are some obvious security concerns with this - but the amount of time i could save dealing with petty issues would be tremendous.

Does anyone have any insight on this or alternate suggestions that might work better to do remote administation?

Thanks!

Ultra@VNC is the best remote control programs that I have used. Using it over a LAN is perfect and it has the ability to easily connect to the computers name so you dont need to know the IP and it stores it in a list for future connections. When you install Ultra@VNC make sure you have it startup as a service on the client computers and password protect it so just you and anyone else who would know the password could login to the computers.

We have a script that installs it on the fly, then removes it with another command line switch.

You install Ultr@VNC on the fly for users? Is this done through a login script for users on your domain?
