Using Ubuntu 12.04 with tmobile mobile broadband

I have been experimenting with Ubuntu 12.04 and tried it with Tmobile Broadband USB Stick 615 Black but can't get connection. When it's running Windows XP the USB Stick works perfectly but i want to replace Windows XP with Ubuntu. I asked Tmobile what i should do and they said uninstall Ubuntu because the USB Stick is only for Windows and Apple.

This raises an important question, if you want to use Mobile broadband what service can you use in the UK?

I put in cd ~/Desktop/Linux/ and then

sudo ./install and then all i got was an error saying sudo command not found

i have no idea what this means because i am very new to anything Ubuntu

Found out there is a website to download different versions of sudo.

After visiting that site found some for Ubuntu 12.04 but lots of different versions which made me confused. I am using an amd cpu so guess the amd 64 is the one to get.

I didn't imagine at the start that ubuntu was a steep learning curve after having used only windows before.

AMD_64 has nothing to do with the brand. It denotes the architecture, and is licensed to Intel for their 64bit cpus. 64bit=AMD64, 32bit=x86

sudo is a core function of your O/S, and should already be installed.

Did you set the permissions on the files before you tried to install?

You can, but I doubt it would help. I always stuck with the LTS releases on Ubuntu. Six months is too fast for an upgrade cycle. You finally get everything smoothed out, and they break it again :^D

I like the idea of Ubuntu LTS because once i have everything working 100% i want to keep in for years lol

everything has now been installed ok to ubuntu 12.04 but had to leave for work urgently so will not be able to test everything until march

Also found out that my Tmobile is the Huawei E173 which it doesn't say anywhere on the dongle.

Thank you to everyone for all of the help which has resulted in me fixing the problem. After i had read loads of text, pages and doing loads of installs of ubuntu 12.04 i decided that it must be my tmobile dongle which was causing the problems. I knew someone who also had a tmobile 615 dongle so first tried it with windows xp which worked perfectly just like mine but then i tried his with ubuntu 12.04 it worked perfectly unlike mine. Now i have a different Tmobile 615 dongle i can now use it with windows xp and ubuntu 12.04 so i great result for me

It was all very confusing which is why i thought the problem was with ubuntu 12.04 because windows xp was working well. I have had the dongle since june 2012 and because i was mostly using either windows xp or windows 7 i didn't see a problem. Using a new dongle fixed everything with Ubuntu because i didn't reinstall it with the new one and no problems now.
