Using two wireless routers to extend range

My friend just moved and he can't get good signal everywhere in his house. He already has a Linksys BEFW11S4 router, and I was thinking of getting a second one...

Should I be using a crossover cable to connect them using the regular LAN ports, or just use a regular cable to connect a LAN port on the first router to the WAN/Internet port on the second router?

From what I read, both routers should have the same SSID, but different channels. Also, DHCP should be disabled on the second router and its IP should be set to something part of the first routers domain. Anything else I should know?

Thanks for your help. :)

That is probably not the best way to do this. This extends you network range without needing a cable. All you do is plug the power cord in and set it up in repeat mode.

Thanks for the help... We moved the router to the second floor and the signal is now pretty good everywhere except in the basement.

And yes, I think the WAP is a better idea since we wouldn't have to use a wire.
