Using two sound cards possible? Input/Output/TVcard question...

Yo guys, I have a slight problem.

I have a shuttle SN45G with an audigy2 plat ex and an AIW 9800 Pro. The problem is, the stock ati minijack cable (which is attached to a dongle) isn't long enough to reach my audigy2 breakout box, which is where all the line-in's are. So, what I'm trying to do is use the input from the nfroce sound, and using the audigy2plat as the output.

Currently, I have the AIW connected to the CD-Audio input on the nforce. I connected my speakers to the nforce, and the sound on the tv works, so i know the CD-Audio works. But, when I connect my speakers the audigy2, I can no sound from the TV.

So, is there any way to fix this possibly? Any certain settings that will allow me to use both in conjunction with each other? I've tried variations in the audio control panel, but nothing seems to work.

Thanks!

Try the soundcard newsgroups:

Good luck!

I really doubt you can use two sound cards because MS didn't forsee such a need. And I can't imagine one either.

Well, a "hack job" solution is to leave your setup as-is, but patch a connector from the nForce line-out to the Audigy line-in. Everything should then come out of the Audigy. 😛 😉 The more elegant (probably not the "best") is to buy a cable extension so that the AIW minijack can reach your Audigy breakout box. This should cost $5 max from Radio Shack, or if you've got a smorgasbord of cables and ends collected over the years, can come out of the parts box.

I'm assuming the AIW's multimedia settings don't list the nForce output as an available input.

Obviously jhbball does have two sound devices installed and independently working in Windows, so MS programmed the OS to allow it or at least did nothing to prevent it! But here's a popular application of having two audio "devices": creating a virtual audio device from an analog modem so the speaker tones can output to a sound card.
