Using two network cards

I have two PCs one is running as a file server and the other I use. Right now I'm using a router to get internet on both. What I want to do isput two network cards in my main PC using one for college ethernet connection and the other connect it to my file server using a crossover cable.
 
sure that can be done
the easy way is to manually configure your server and the 2nd card on the workstation with static IP addresses
