I just tried connecting the cable directly to a tv at another location in the apt, and it gets the same signals as the tv tuner. I guess time warner scrambles some of the analog channels?

I have the same situation with my Comcast Cable and as far as I know, there's no way to get the other analog channels. I ended up just getting another box and hooking up the cable through the S-Video connector on the TV tuner.

The guy didn't know what was going on and asked a valid question. YOU are the one who jumped down his throat, and got all defensive when others tried to help the guy and pointed out that you were being harsh. Quit being such a dick.

AGAIN, DON'T TALK ABOUT STUFF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND

TWC charges for service, not the outlet. They want you to rent equipment from them so they can suck more money out of you. It is legal for him to buy his own cable box and recieve only the channels in which he is paying for...

So am I going to be the only person to help him out? Your subscribing to digital cable, but what is coming through the line are analog signals. The digital signal comes on the same line, but without a digital box you cant access them.

For some reason, time warner doesnt shut off all of their analog channels when you stop subscribing to their service. I canceled my cable months ago, and just to see what would happen, I plugged the cable coax line in, and while the vast majority of channels were scrambled, a few came through just fine, all of the major networks, fox news etc.

What you need to do if you want to get it to work is call up time warner and get another cable box. Its like an extra six bucks a month. Then just connect it to your tv-tuner using the svideo or composite connection, and connect the sound to your sound card, for which you will probably need an adapter. Then just access your tv tuners video in line, and use the cable remote to surf channels. If your tuner is so old it doesnt have video in, then connect it using the coax output on your cable box, although it wont look nearly as good.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure that that'll work. I just wanted to see if it would work with my tv tuner, but I don't want to pay for an extra receiver, since we already have two in the apt. I guess I'll be happy with just the channels that I can get.

As it is here with Time Warner, if you have a digital cable box, you can get both the analog and digital channels with the box. The channels that I get now with analog service stay analog. In theory, channels below 100 are analog (the highest here is 78, Game Show Network) and all the channels 100 and up are digital and can only be received with the box. Other TVs in the house should still be able to pick up analog channels just fine.
