I haven't recieved my package yet.... but I wanted to know ahead of time if I should put any Arctic Silver 5 on my Leadtek PX6800GT, and if so where on the card do I put it and how?

What are the benefits, the disadvantages, and maybe should I get some Arctic Ceramique instead? I have no idea...

...help me out.

You take off the heatsink
you clean the old compound off of the gpu core (rubbing alcohol should work)
you put the AS on top of the gpu core (a little metallic square is what it should be) and just enough to have a thin layer covering the core
install the heatsink

You probably will see a very very slight temperature drop, but it'd be better if you just installed a whole new heatsink with the AS compound.

Hope this helps

AS5 may be slight conductive. Ceramique is a better choice for video cards, but if you already have AS5 and you're careful, you should be ok.

First off, make sure the card works properly in case you have to RMA it. That way you're not stuck with a dead card if it really was DOA.

Is it worth doing for a few degrees? Would you do it with that particular card?

And yeah, I'll use it for a bit before putting it on, if I do.

My thoughts are that it's only worth doing if you'll be taking off the cooler. Otherwise, nah. But if you are going to do it, use AS5 only on the GPU core, and use Ceramique or some other silicone based stuff on the ram.

Ah indeed, thanks for the help. So... I guess I shouldn't take off the cooler to put paste on then...

Even if I'm overclocking the card?

Look around articsilver.com for instructions on how to use it.
I didn't get big temperature drops so I'm not sure how people got 10C improvement but it could be that its summer and I haven't been monitoring temps for a while.

The GPU uses good AR like compound already so its the RAM which uses white stuff which will get the most improvement.

Alright then, I'll pick up some cheap Ceramique and toss it on the RAM then.

the 6800gt uses GDDR3ram so it dosent get all that hot to begin with. It wont improve your oc by too much, but if you want, you can try it. no harm in trying.
