if describing something as "gay" is wrong, then so is saying something is "awesome". For example: "Wow, that movie was really gay!". "No way man, it was awesome!". Neither words describe anything..it's like using the words "stuff" and "things". Surely you didn't come here planning to change how we talk, did you?

-=bmacd=-

THe words "awesome", "crap", etc. don't refer to people.

"Gay" refers to people.

"Julie has awesome legs, That guy's face looks like crap, and Kia makes some really gay cars."

Tell me which of the three words you posted refer to people in the preceeding sentance.

What do you mean "the semantic game" This entire thread is based on semantics. It's about the use of a word.

semantics:
The study or science of meaning in language.

Ok, we'll stop arguing semantics. At that point, the entire thread is irrelevant.

too bad that so many people in this threas are so flippant in regards to kindness and respect to other groups of people

no I am not gay since that is on the minds of at least one of you

but then again, there were many white men invovled with the civil rights movement, even though it did not directly help them

maybe they were involved because it helped HUMANS as a whole...wow there's a novel concept

The term "Gay" has multiple meanings. It does not exclusively decribe nor does it belong to the homosexual community.

EbonyE, you may be gay, but you are DEFINITELY gay.

This thread is gay.

And Notfred is my hero.

Whats with all the gay/lesbian threads lately? They are not using gay as a "derogatory" term they are using it in place of lame or stupid, its shorter and easier to say/

But the word is used to insinuate that something is bad because it is now being associated with homosexuals.
I have used the term before(called something 'gay'). I do not have a problem with gay people, nor was I using the term in a way meaning that there is a problem with gay people. Some people are just too sensitive

i haven't seen so many asses on both sides of an argument since Hitler fought Stalin. Ebony, what exactly did you hope to accomplish by even starting this thread? You knew you'd bring the resident wackos out of the woodwork, and you couldn't even handle them. The rest of you need to learn a word called "respect." I don't say gay anymore because although I never actually meant "homosexual," the term nevertheless is offensive to gays. It didn't take much to get out of the habit of saying it, and now I don't offend anybody.

You know, I love to jump in make fun of someone with everyone else as much as the next guy, but EE has a point. I'm sure some of you folks would have a problem if things like 'That movie was so Mexican' or 'This thread is so Asian' or 'This whole thing is so Muslim' started catching on.
