I have been using Sygate personal firewall (Free Edition) with my dial-up connection up until now without any problems. Having now switched to ADSL, I cannot access the Internet at all? I have checked that all the applications that are needed to access the Internet such as iexplore etc are enabled.

I have installed the new version but it still does not work?

The strange thing is that it works fine when I am connected with the dial-up connection?

Could it be filtering traffic based on the IP address?

Does your ISP require you to register your MAC address with them? I know Telus around here does. Otherwise you can't connect to anything.

I am able to access the Internet when the firewall is set to the 'allow all' option. The strange thing is that I can access the Internet with the firewall set to the 'normal' option when using a dial-up connection; which incidently usually uses a 213. IP address. The only difference I can see when I use the ADSL connection is, that I am on a fixed 83. IP address?

clear all yoru rules and start over. something in your rules is junk. or go through your rules and fix it.

I am not running a web/mail server on the connection however, I was under the impression that it is recommended to have a firewall when using an ADSL Internet connection?

With the Sygate firewall activated, I have noticed incoming NetBeui requests from what I believe to be the DNS servers?

I would prefer to continue using Sygate as other firewall software does not report this and also Sygate is rated quite highly and has many features that other personal firewall software do not have.
