Using SVHS VCR to convert 8mm to DV ????

I am trying to convert my 8mm video to DV. I can then download my DV to my computer for editing and burning. My orginal Sony 8mm does not have an svideo output and my DV camcorder only can only record svideo inputs. Can I use a svhs vcr to input the 8mm (composite) and have it pass the signal through the unit and out the svideo on the svhs vcr? Will it work and will the quality be OK?

It should work and the quality should be almost as good as the original.

Thanks fo the reply. I have found SVHS VCRs on ebay for less than $100 and since I have a few vhs tapes I would like to get on DV tape I guess this will be the best plan.

I still keep looking for a black box that converts composite video/audio to svideo but can not find anything.... Looks like Dazzle has several products but everything seems to be geared to convert analog directly to your PC. I just want to go from RCA to Svideo. Am I missing some product or trick?

Why not just get one of those little dazzle digital video boxes that has RCA/SVideo, etc connections and allows you to digitally dump from any video source (Audio/Video Source) to your PC via USB (I think there are FW models too)? (They're less then $100).

Is there some reason you don't want to use one of these. Passing the signal through more and more devices is only going to cause it to degrade.

Another converter for $7.50. Lot cheaper than a VCR. Really don't know how the quality of this one compares to the on Thorin showed you or the ones Radio Shack offers for twenty bucks (on the rare instances they have anything in stock anymore!), but seems worth a shot.
