Using Surface Pro 4 Pen on a Surface Pro 3 (Digitizer Sensitivity)

I currently own a SP3 Pro and lost my pen... again. I need to buy a new pen of which there are now two available (well, technically as of Monday). I know the SP3 has 256 levels of sensitivity whereas the SP4 has 1024.

This is probably wishful thinking since its probably dependent on the digitizer, but if I buy the SP4 pen... will I be able utilize 1024 levels on my SP3 Pro? Basically, is the level of sensitivity based on the pen or the digitizer.
