Using Software to do your tax income?

I am debating with someone right now about doing your yearly taxes with some software such a quicken or turbotax. Is it safe to do or have any advantages over a regular way?

TurboTax, hands down! For those using the simple 1040, 1040a (prolly the majority of us). I enjoy: the built-in interview feature that interacts like a personal tax preparer, all the forms I've ever needed are already in the software, it lets me play with the number to see "what if", I can update the tax return as new records are received or revised, and it generates my state tax seamlessly. I know it will process returns involving property, divorce, small business, yadda-yadda, but one would prolly want to have professional help in matters involving the big bucks. Oh, and it will review and pinpoint the dumb clerical errors.

I'll second the vote for TurboTax. It's especially easy the second year as it imports a lot of data from the previous year. Just update the numbers and file electronically. Takes very little time. Usually by February or so you can get it pretty cheap. Just beware of the version you get. I got the basic one and had to download my state form for some ridiculous price. Last year I got the deluxe version (or something like that) that had a rebate for the state form so it was basically free once you got the refund.
