Using smc2804 as an access point

When I set my laptop to dhcp it will not find our dhcp server running on OSX if we connect to our network wirelessly through a smc2804. The smc2804 only as one cable running to one of its lan ports which connects it to 1 of the two 48 port switches we have. The smc2804 also has dhcp turned off. What else could be wrong? It all works fine if I give my laptop a static ip address and connect wireless. Wired computers connected to one of the switches work fine using dhcp also.

do you have the Stateful Packet Inspection turned on?

are there any options for DHCP passthrough?

is there an Access Point mode or any others that you can put it into?

SPI is turned on, but turning it off did not make a difference. I did not see an option for dhcp passthrough. I also did not see an access point mode.

obvious, but is your firmware up to date?

have you considered turning on the SMC DHCP server and just natting out from there? looking through its manual i couldnt find much on dhcp other than the smc itself.

is this for your business? one good reason to run enterprise gear and not soho cable/dsl stuff...

I am running firmware version V1.00.020 which seems to be the newest version. I have not considered using the SMC as the dhcp server since most of our workstations are wired. I guess that would work though. I may try that sometime. Yes this is for a business, but I didn't buy the hardware. Although it should work.

At this point I would try another device made by another Brand.

Unlike Wired Ethernet, Wireless might have compatibity problems with complictaed systems that run more than the simple TCP/IP protocol.

Then which device serves the DHCP? Static will be only solution to your issue in as much as disabled DHCP on the gateway and if you have an unmanaged switch. Your gateway is doing the access point function. Correct me if I understood wrong.
