My job pays for and supplies my regular cell phone, and I am allowed to use it for personal calls, But I've always liked the idea of having a "home" phone number, so I'm thinking Skype and a USB phone.
ANyone use Sype as their primary home phone?

Thoughts?

i have a dlink usb device so that my old "pots" cordless phones can still be used

i use my skypeIn number for my "home" phone for my credit cards and stuff

you can setup skypeIn to forward to your cell when you are on vacation or at work etc etc

Only if you have a cell phone as backup (if you aren't going to have a land line.)

Around here, when the power goes out, both dsl and cable go out as well so a UPS doesn't help in those times. More often tho, you need a way to call the isp when their service is out or is sucking more than usual.

I personally wouldn't, since my cable internet is pretty shaky and goes out occassionally. But if you have a stable internet and don't have too many electricity problems, I don't see why not.

Wouldn't it be easier to use a real VOIP service that doesn't require your PC to be on? (unless I'm missing something that there are Skype adapters that work independently of your PC?)

"real VOIP service", that costs a lot more money than skypeIn

$38 per year for SkypeIn or $199 for sunrocket

depends on how you are going to use it

our cells are our primary comms, the skypeIn is just for specific things, "home" phone number
