I have couple of ide drives that i want to add using the abit serillel adapters. I have 2 versions (0 and 1)
I have a intel D965WH with 4 unused SATA ports which i did not load the drivers for when installing xp.

would i be able to get existing ide drives and sata adapter to work this way.

I am able to use a HD on an Asus, but not cds. I don't know the version of serillel, but it's the one that came with the nf7.

I've used them with no problems on an ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 board; I also have two different versions (one came with my old NF7-S 2.0 and I purchased one separately). Hard drives work just fine with them and in my experience, CD/DVD drives generally do as well (although you might run into some issues if you try to boot to an optical drive that's on one of those adapters).

The only thing I can think of is to make sure the drive is jumpered correctly - it should be set to either "Master" or "Master without Slave" if the drive has a setting for that (WD drives usually).

thnks i moved the jumper from cs to master and it worked.

Another Q if i were to add another serillel adapter and ata HD. Would i set it to slave?

is sata similar to pata, in that 1 channel connects 2 drives. I have four sata connectors and win xp "sees" 2 controllers. so would sata ports 1 and 3 be on one controller with 2 and 4 on another controller.

Each SATA drive/connection is on its own channel (there's no concept of master/slave for SATA), so you should set each drive that's connected to an adapter, as Master. There may be more than one channel/port per controller, but not more than one drive per channel.

i switched HDs and put a "system" disk from another rig on the serrillel adapter and now i can't boot into windows. Get a select F1 to load operating system.
