Using SATA & PATA On-board?

Is there anything weird about using both a SATA and PATA HDD each on their own controller (no adapter)? I mean as far as BIOS remapping and stuff. I am thinking of getting a new SATA (Seagate 7200.7 8MB) for the primary and using the PATA (Seagate 'Cuda IV 2MB) for removeable backup. The Seagate SATA definitely can have AAM enabled with the Hitachi tool, n'est ce pas?
 
I've read (but not 100% sure) that because of impending legal action against Seagate, AAM ability on all the 7200.7 drives have been disabled in firmware, so you wouldn't be able to enable it even with the Hitachi utility.
 
If you want AAM on a Seagate SATA drive you have to stick with the Barracuda V series. The 7200.7 won't do it, as aSnipingPenguin states above. The cuda Vs have the 8MB cache just like the newer 7200.7s but you can enable AAM on them by using the Hitachi Feature Tool. These are the drives that I'm using in my new quiet rig.
 
Automatic Acoustic Management.

Drat. I would much prefer the higher density discs, especially as I only need 80GB and that would be a single platter instead of the V's which only have 60GB platters. Plus the V's don't seem to be much of a performance improvement over the IV. Then considering the 37%! price premium for SATA 8MB over PATA 2MB 7200.7 I not sure what to get. Hmm... What's quiet and fast and cheap? And don't say pick two! 😛

Sorry. You can't have all three and the only way to have two is to settle for "fast and cheap".
