I have a dell I 2950 with a Perc5i RAID card and want to know what I would have to do to use SATAII hard drives on it. I've been told that SATA drives work fine with SAS controllers but I'm not sure if anything else needs to be done.

I've never used a SAS drive, and have had nothing but good experiences w/ PERCs. You may want to make sure to get RAID edition HDDs, though, even if it is an artificially created market.

Thanks for the reply! I tried a 500Gb SATAII drive and it was detected on the RAID card so I think it should be fine. I'll be trying it later and post back my results.

SATA cards work fine on SAS controllers, but SAS drives won't work on SATA controllers.

My two storage arrays both have 8+ SATA drives on SAS controllers :)
