using Safari for first time with forums having trouble going to "today" screen

I am having trouble getting into my today screen, it seems as if i am not logged in, but i know that i am because i see the "logout" button instead of the login when i am at general hardware forums, but as soon as i switch to today, it is as if i'm not logged in.
 
it turns out that safari's feature to block cookies from sites that you have not navigated to was interrupting the creation of a cookie from the today screen. but i fixed it and it works fine now.... weird, the rest of the forums cookie's were fine.



(turned off the feature, allowing all cookies to be accepted, then navigated to the site, re-logged in and then turned the feature back on, now i'm all set 🙂
