Hi all,
I have been trying to find out if I can replace the ribbon cable that conects the card to the live drive with a standard round 40 pin IDE cable. I sent an email to Creative and this is what they said "This is not supported and has not been tested. It may work but I do not recommend trying it." I already new it "might" work. They look like the same kind of plug, but I don't want to fry my card or drive or both.

Works for me on the Audigy and Live Drive II but I don't know about the Audigy II which I've read will not work with the older Live Drives

Copper is copper. There's nothing else between A (card) and B (live drive). Go for it.

I think he actually has the A2's Live Drive, he just needed a replacement cable. My guess is that the only reason your older drives don't work with the A2 is b/c they rearranged the pin-outs or some of the new pin-outs aren't supported by the older live drives. If that's the case, you'd need to slice and splice a ribbon to reorganize the pinouts; assuming you knew which pin-outs did what :Q I know pillage has been looking for a schematic on the pinouts w/out any luck (as well as his pursuit of a T-bred B :p), so my guess its a move by Creative to prevent backwards compatibility :| Considering some people get confused by the concept of a cross-over Cat5e cable, it would be quite a feat if one of you guys figured it out and enlightened the rest of the world :D

I believe they did re arrange SOME but not all of the pins. Fark those bastards. :( Now I need to go buy another live drive just because I upgraded my sound card. :(

Yes Chiz, I'm still pursuing a Tbred B. It's coming to me real soon. At 86bucks per piece in googlegear, :D hard to resist.
