Using RDP Outside of my LAN

I set up a small file server (Windows XP Pro/512 MB RAM/Athlon XP 2200+/300 GB HDD) for home use. I use Terminal Services to connect to it at home (it's at 192.168.1.100 on the home network). I also share its HDD across the local workgroup. It's proven to be extremely handy so far--I use it to encode video and burn discs (instead of doing these things on my laptop). However, I'd like to be able to access the machine from outside my LAN--how can I do this securely? Thank you for your help; I'm a complete n00b at this.
