Using PC3200 instead of PC2700

I have an old IBM NetVista model 8303 52U (that someone gave to me - for free).

If I wanted to upgrade/replace the current memory which is 256mb PC2100, would I have any problems (either stability or heat) if I decided to use the PC3200 instead of PC2700, which is available from CRUCIAL ?

Thanks.

There's no guarantee it will even boot with PC3200 in it. It will depend on the bios and the only way to know for sure is to install and test. If it boots, then you should have not problems.

And the system will most likely try to run it at 266MHz anyway, so faster memory will NOT run faster.

But there are memory modules rated at PC 2700/2100, so I would just get that.

Good luck!

good luck! my gf's old dell (p4 2.0Ghz, etc) would NOT work with some ddr-400 corsair 2x512MB valueram from newegg (the pair that EVERYONE gets). it DID work with ddr-333 though.

Yeah, that's what I am afraid of. Most likely the bios simply won't work with the SPD info or possibly the the NB has trouble with the IC density.
