Using onboard GPU + Discrete GPU simultaneously?

Got this board:

Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H w/ onboard GeForce 9400

I'm having trouble using the onboard 9400 + my GTX260 though. I've installed the latest chipset driver directly from NVIDIA's site. When I installed that, I chose not to install the video driver during the first part of setup.

After the chipset driver install, I downloaded the latest GTX260 driver directly from NVIDIA's site and installed that.

Now when I go to the device manager, under "Display adapters" it shows:

- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
- Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (Yellow triangle and exclamation point next to / on it)


The GTX260 is working fine, but I can't get the onboard 9400 to work.

Vista Ultimate x64. I tried disabling and enabling HybridSLI in the BIOS as well and nothing changed.

What exactly are you trying to do? You wish to use Hybrid Power?

Should go something like this:

Remove GTX260 first of all. We'll get to that later.

Make sure Hybrid Power functions are "Enabled" or set to "Auto" in your BIOS.

Install Windows Vista64 with all the latest motherboard drivers from the manufacturer.

Install the latest updates/service packs for Vista64.

Make sure your monitor has been, and will always stay connected to the onboard video on the motherboard. At no time should you ever connect the monitor to the GTX260 if you expect Hybrid Power to work.

Install your GTX260 and install the latest WHQL drivers from Nvidia's site.

Reboot

You should see a small tray icon on the bottom right in the taskbar. That will be how you control Hybrid Power. Two settings, Low power and Performance, unless they changed the "naming".

Does this resemble anything you have done already?

I'm not trying to use HybridSLI (GeForce Boost / Hybrid Power). All I want to do is use both the onboard 9400 + my GTX260 simultaneously. I have two LCD monitors connected to my GTX260 and a LCD TV connected to the onboard 9400.

I want to be able to use all three screens at the same time.

There seems to be a doubt as to whether or not the 9400 chipset actually supports Hybrid SLI. It may be a proprietary implementation by Gigabyte themselves, but I'm unsure at this point. Here is why:

Hybrid SLI isn't checked off next to the 9400 series motherboards.

Don't know what I did, but I just got it to work.

People weren't kidding though when they said that the NVIDIA 9400 chipset gets hot. Everest shows it at 102C right now. :Q

Good god that's pretty extreme. Might want to blow a case fan across it.
