Using Microsoft Paint to Edit Screenshots

I don't know of any other software that can do this so I usually use Microsoft Paint to do this. Sometimes I want to edit out some information that are in the screenshots that I take. I don't know of any software that can securely blur out the information. I'm always afraid that someone can take the blurred images and then use some powerful software to unblur it. If I use Microsoft Paint's eraser feature, "erase" those information from the screenshot, and then save it as a new JPEG, will someone be able to recover the information that's been "erased" with Paint's eraser feature?

I don't know how eraser works, or what it looks like. If it's just a blurring, I could foresee the ability to run a statistical analysis on the photo to guess what's blurred, though I'm not aware of specific software that does this. Generally speaking, editing photos is a destructive process, and if it's saved to a .jpg, I'm unaware of easy ways to revert tbe changes.

Blurring is a terrible way to hide information in a screenshot because it can be undone if you know the blurring algorithm.

Easiest way to do this is to copy/paste a black box over the spots you want to hide. Paint only deals with a single layer of the image so it deletes the data that was "underneath" the box when you save your changes to the image. If you're using something like Photoshop make sure you "merge layers" for the same effect (it'll usually force you to do this when you save it as an image format anyway).

I've been using a screenshot tool which also comes with an image editor. To cover some private information on the screenshot, I usually crop them out, or like Mushkins said, copy/paste a patch and merge the patch with the screenshot. I don't think others could separate them as they are on the same layer. If they do, I have to say you are kind of big shot.

I always replace rather than blur. In fact if you want to play it safe, select, delete the information, then use fill tool to add a colour that is similar to what was there for aesthetic purposes. I usually use photoshop or gimp to do it. Paint works too. Just don't use any proprietary image formats, like don't go posting the PSD file or what not. There's always the chance that undo info is still embedded in it.

Also if you just draw over it, make sure that your brush is at 100% opacity.

I always use Photoshop CS5 to edit my screenshot. After editing I use rectangle tool and color on black and covered it to the whole image and make the capacity 90-95%
