Using memory sticks from different manufacturers

Hi all. I currently have 6GB Patriot RAM (3x2GB) in my computer. I'd like to add another 2GB stick. Mostly it's because I'm noticing that newer games coming out have 8GB listed under recommended system specs. The exact type that I have is no longer made by Patriot though. I think it's DDR3 1600 that I have. I was wondering, would there likely be compatibility issues if I bought a 2GB stick made by Corsair for example and put that in? Also would it have to have the exact same specifications as the Patriot RAM as far as frequencies, voltages etc? Thanks for any advice guys.

Which newer games have 8Gb recommended?
The voltage should be the same, speed should be compatible, so if its faster, it should be ok to run it slower.

It would work ok if the memory module config is the same. So if you have a single ranked dimm you should pair it with another single ranked stick. You mb manual should have a page on this.
