Using Meebo / Verticalimits at work

I'm pretty sure there are many people out here that uses Meebo / Verticalimits at work because the company firewall blocks AIM / MSN / ICQ or whatever IM client you guys use. Meebo is actually also blocked at my work place, but just found out about Verticalimits and apparently that isn't! Call me a wuss, but I'm kind of scared that I'll get in trouble (or worst, fired) if IT finds out about it.

So my question is, has anyone ever gotten into trouble for using Meebo / Verticalimits at work? (assuming, of course, that IMing is prohibited at work)

I've been using Meebo for awhile now, and one of the fellow IT guys (higher up, setup the network etc) came in and saw it open in my browser. Now, my office doesn't care if you use chat programs...they just have gone to great lengths to setup sniffers for each client, just so they can keep records of convos. (this was a fact I did not know, as I wasn't here when they installed them). I explained to him what it was (I usually just tell people it's "Trillian in a browser window"). He seemed very interested, and mentioned something along the lines of "I wonder if our sniffers would pick that up....prolly not, with it being HTTP and all *shrug*" And that was the end of that 😛

Yeah, I tell people to use Meebo who have other chat clients blocked, but I don't know if you'd get in trouble. I guess if they block it, they don't want you using it.

I'm on meebo all day and while our main manager might care, he's never caught me on it 🙂
