Using IR port for PC Remote

wondering if could use this one and get a regular TV remote control working with it. i'd probably need some software too rite. any1 has any previous experience on this kinda stuff. thanks !

Two issues...

1. There is a difference between digital IR networking in computers and consumer IR (CIR) products. To use a TV remote control, you will likely have to find a IR port that supports or is intended for CIR applications.

2. Software is right, but what OS you planning on running? Linux has several projects for IR remotes, try looking here.

windows platform is what im lookin at.
that stuff i expensive compared to this $10 i have. (i use it to transfer stuff betwn my comp and cellfone)
