Using Intel Integrated 4000 HD with a Discrete Card

Hello all.

Is it possible to dynamically switch between the Intel Integrated graphics on sandy/ivy bridge chips and a discrete gpu to save energy?

It seems crazy that I have a GPU that uses 100W at idle when 90% of the time I could get by with just the integrated. (The 10% being gaming.)

Is there any way to accomplish something like this? (i.e. dynamically disabling the card when not in use, or dynamically underclocking the GPU?)

The closest thing I know of to that is Optimus (Nvidia technology). While I would think that it is a driver/software solution, as far as I know only discrete laptop adapters support it.
 
It doesn't necessarily need to switch between video cards per say. I'm mostly interested in saving power when I'm not playing games but still having a good video card to play games with.

Is there a way to dynamically undervolt/underclock the discrete video card when just web surfing, etc? It seems insane that I have a GPU eating 100W at all times when I only play games 10% of the time.
