Using hosts files to kill a site - 0.0.0.0 or 127.0.0.1 - on winxp - which is better?

They'd be equivalent. You might also consider trying out OpenDNS.com's free service, so you can block proxies, and also block the offending site at the DNS server.

Unless your running a local web server, in which case the 0.0.0.0 would be faster...
