Using flat panel without receiver being on

I picked up a Pioneer VSX-522-K Receiver and the manual is hilariously cryptic. I connected DirecTV and a HTPC using HDMI cables to the receiver and ran the output to a 70" LCD flat panel.

Question: Is there anyway to use the screen without the receiver being on? I don't need surround when using the HTPC for simple PC functions such as facebook 'n stuff. Currently, if I don't have the receiver powered on, I get a "No Signal" error message.

Thanks.

I don't think you can do it with the receiver off, but some receivers will offer an option somewhere in their setup menu that will allow you to pass the audio through to the TV while the receiver is on. I found it in my mom's onkyo reciever, but my Pioneer doesn't have it. I have a different model than you do though.

what you want to do should work fine assuming that receiver supports HDMI passthrough - you may have to turn this on in the options someplace

if it does not then you are SOL

Look at the "Standby Through" settings in your manual. That is what Pioneer calls pass through.

What Darko said above, as per its "Features" listed on their website (look in "The Latest HDMI® Technology" section)

...Plus its HDMI Standby Through mode lets video and audio signals pass through the VSX-522-K to the TV even when the receiver is off....

Its on Page #33 of this manual

Thanks all, it appears I'll need to download the manual. In the box, it only came with a quick set up and usage guide.
