Using Firewire on a motherboard that doesn't support it

My motherboard(Asus M2N-E) doesn't have any connectors on it for Firewire. I assume that the use of a pci card like this one: Text could do the job, but I'd rather not use any more PCI slots if possible.

If I used a media card reader that has firewire ports on the front: Text, would it require me to make connections onto the motherboard that don't exist, I would guess so, so I guess that the pci slot is the only alternative I have to getting a firewire port.

So can I use either of these methods to get firewire ports on my computer? Thanks.

The PCI slot is your only reasonable path. You can get a combo with both USB and FW ports.

You need the card not the 3.5 media card reader, it requires the 1394 conn be present already,

Yup, for a desktop, you need a PCI firewire card (or one of the Sound Blasters that comes with a firewire port).
