Using external HP 8200e CDRW with Imac (don't all imacs find USB drivers?)

Hi all,

I'm trying to help a friend use an imac with a USB CDRW drive. I got him a nice trade on an 8200e, thinking that a standard drive like that would surely be recognized by it. Of course this didn't happen, and HP has no drivers on their web site for the drive...

Is he SOL? Or would an OS patch or something else be a likely fix?

Apologies for my ignorance on Imacs...
