using ecc memory in a non-ecc dimm

I have recently purchased an Asus p4p800 deluxe and specifications include "non-ecc" memory. I have been using my ecc memory and I'm trying to narrow down a raid 0 problem or possible memory problem that leads to application errors. Maybe its ok to run ecc in non-ecc dimms as long as error checking would not be enabled. I would like to know if anyone knows this one.

My understanding is that ECC memory will work fine, just run in non-ECC mode. But perhaps this motherboard specifically can't handle it.
