using e-ide dvd in non laptop

I am currently designing a case for myself and am making it as small as possible. That said, is it possible to run an e-ide dvd-rw drive with my non laptop hardware?
thanks

Yes, EIDE is a normal IDE connection. I believe the E stands for Enhanced, or maybe Extended. Either way, it's just a newer (newest?) standard for improving IDE device speeds and size limitations. EIDE is not a laptop specific device, so yes, an EIDE drive would function well in your non-laptop hardware. In fact, I believe most DVD drives these days are still EIDE. I believe there are a couple of new SATA models, but I think most are still EIDE.
