Using Dell XP upgrade on non-Dell system?

Bought my mother in law a Dell with WinMe on it the other day. It came with a coupon to upgrade to XP for $20 when issued.

Since she doesn't really need XP, I was wondering if I could use the upgrade on my Win98 machine (I know I will need to register it etc).

Question is:

Do you think the upgrade is tied in to Dell's BIOS in some way to make it work only on a Dell box? I don't want to dump $20 on something that wont work.
