Using CrashFree BIOS 3 on P5B-E?

How do I use this feature? Supposedly you just place the ROM (I think it has to be named P5BE.ROM) on the root of a CD-R, USB keychain, or floppy (don't have a floppy drive) and it will pick up the ROM and reflash it. No such luck here. I've heard conflicting reports about needing a PCI video card, etc. This is, of course, after a failed flash (flash succeeded, but verification did not and subseqent flashes failed outright).

Does anyone have some actual experience with it? I just get a blank screen.

Sorry, I've not used it but from the way it's written in another Asus manual, all you do is insert the MB support CD into your optical drive and boot.

I'm guessing you'd have to have your optical set in the boot sequence and may need to disable your HDD's so it definitely boots from the CD. This may be why your USB drive isn't picked up?

Can you borrow a floppy drive from another machine if the CD & USB don't work?

PS It seems a lot of ASUS bios updates (through Windows method) have stuffed up recently. A lot of HELP! posts in the local forums this weekend...
 
That should be on the asus disk.

I hosed a bios on my old P5B- Deluxe and was able to recover using the asus disk.

I didn't use a pci video card. (that's if you have a bad video bios flash)

read the manual and it will give you all the details.
 
I know my HDD was first in the boot sequence, so I'll try that.

EDIT: Even with just the DVD connected, no joy. I see the drive initialize (drive light goes on), and then nothing. I used the CD provided with the mobo.

EDIT x2: Pulled the board, off to Newegg...
