Using AverTV card to record TV shows

I have an AverTV tuner card that works fine for watching TV. But when I try to record a program, all I get is the picture, with no sound. Why can't I seem to record the sound along with the picture?

Thanks for any suggestions.
 
Make sure line-in isn't muted. Did you use the audio passthrough cable they provided? Maybe try it without that? I dunno.
 
Here's something interesting. When I try playing the mpeg file in Windows Media Player, I get an "Error downloading codec". Video plays, but still no audio. Do I need a separate codec for these files?
