I looked around on the web a long time ago and found that you can use Audigy 2 drivers for the original Audigy... is this true? I got my buddy to lend me a copy of his Audigy 2 ZS install disc... some expert here please show me how to do the install :)

I am not sure about this, but I would recommend using the latest creative drivers for your card, the new ones that include openAL support are so stable that I am finally glad I bought a creative soundcard... now if they could just do something about the stupid control applications. Audio Console is nice but it can't control speaker levels, sub redirect, thx adjustments, level adjustments, or even the equalizer on my Audigy 2 ZS. I still have to use the older control panel to do all of these, at least all of the AudioHQ's functions seemed to have been ported to the console(Headphone, decoder/passthrough, bit accurate mode, and sampling output), because I hated that application since its inception.

Does using the audigy 2 drivers gain you more features or something? I have not really looked into the audigy 1... I didn't buy it because I never buy first generation products... especially for Creative...

Dunno about that, but I am using slightly modified Audigy 4 drivers on my Audigy 2 ZS. Much better software than the Audigy 2 package.

*edit* sorry off topic...I meant that there is probably a website about it if there is
a chance that it works...and considering my card's capabilities, I am sure anything is possible with Creative.

Anything that's hardware based will not work, but software based ones will. Most of the stuff from the newer cards can be emulated (CMSS 3-D headphone, Crystalizer) as they are software based.

Manufacturers often create software that is locked to only work on their "newer" products to give them an edge, but any good hacker can unlock those features. This is pretty common in video cards; "better" firmware that can be hacked into older cards for speed boosts.

Hmm... this was a long time ago... and from what I've read, the software/driver for the original Audigy was horrible. People used the Audigy 2ZS driver because it "sounded better" and had a much better interface... and I really want the CMSS 3D headphone and Crystalizer functions :)
