I'm a total freakin' n00b when it comes to the question/possibility of using a LCD Monitor as a TV. Is this a good option? I assume that my cable box would need to have an HDMI output, or I would need to get some kind of converter box to convert it to DVI. It seems like one might be able to save quite a bit of money by using a LCD monitor instead of a LCD TV with builtin tuner.

I searched and couldn't find any threads talking about this issue... please link-me-up if you know of any. Otherwise... what's the general opinion about this idea?

Thanks!

There becomes a need for more inputs than a standard PC LCD monitor has. Multiple HDMI, Component, Stereo sound for legacy devices (assuming you aren't running an AV receiver of some sort).

Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific. This TV is not for my main living room entertainment TV which needs to acccept multiple inputs, etc. This TV would just be to hang on the wall in the room with our eliptical trainer so we can watch TV and possibly DVDs while we workout. So, it would only need to accept inputs from those two devices. I would likely setup a small pair of stereo speakers instead of using crappy builtin speakers. If the monitor only had one input I could setup some type of switch box... I know that there used to be external boxes that would do some limited switching and TV tuning... AVerMedia used to make some called "TV box 5" and "TV Box 9." Though I don't know what the modern equivalent would be...

Thanks!
